Thanksgiving Day 2012
On the cusp of Thanksgiving Day, many New Yorkers are just beginning to recover from the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, which reached its worst intensity on the east coast one month ago, on October 25.
For many, the hurricane hit close to home with its widespread destruction of life and property, affecting families, friends and neighbors. Untold numbers of others– across the country and around the world—watched helplessly as news reports of the tragedy unfolded. Many sprang into action, volunteering and giving.
Those of us who are safe and sound at home have much to be thankful for this year. If family or friends surround you, you are especially fortunate. If you are alone, I hope that the day is relaxing and that you are thinking about what you have rather than what you don’t. Each day is a blessing. If you know someone who may be feeling alone, it’s a nice time of year to reach out in friendship.
Thanks for visiting my blog on this fifth Thanksgiving Day, for posting your thoughts, for being so supportive and helpful to others on the Forums, and for having the confidence in me and in yourselves to share your friendship dilemmas and successes.
Warm regards, Irene
