On Life Goes Strong – The mean girls of “The Help”

This weekend, I saw The Help, Kathryn Stockett’s wonderful novel brought to the screen about the plight of African American maids in the South in the early 60s.

Like me, many women who have seen the film say that the mean girls it portrays are strikingly similar to the ones they encounter in their own schools, neighborhoods, and workplaces.

Have you read the book or seen the movie? What did you think? Have you run into mean girls in your own life?

I have not yet read the book or seen the movie. I am disappointed to learn that the characters represent “mean girls.” Do you think this was a statement by the author, or do you think it was unintentional?
