Belated Thanksgiving to Irene and all others who read her terrrific blog.
What do you think about friends who are alone on these big holidays? Do you invite them to your family gatherings? Do you ask them how their day went, even if you know they were all alone? It’s awkward and hard to know how to make these friends feel okay without pitying them. I think the knee jerk response is to say, "Oh, you should volunteer on Thanksgiving so you stop feeling sorry for yourself," but I don’t really want to say that to someone. I think that’s a little heartless. Not everyone is all that comfortable doing the volunteer thing. Or maybe it doesn’t fill the void all that much?
Irene, you said on another posting that you feel people more or less choose their circumstances. But I don’t know if people truly "choose" to be all alone on holidays. Maybe they don’t feel comfortable being the fifth wheel at their friend’ s family gathering?
Thoughts, anyone?
Happy Thanksgiving to you too Irene!! And to everybody!!
