7 great new websites match friends rather than lovers.

These days, many people are using the same strategy to find new friends that they would use to search for a new house, a new job, or a new marriage partner: They’re harnessing the power of the Internet.

A growing number of websites make the task easier by setting up social networks exclusively focused on facilitating platonic friendships. My post Making New Platonic Friends Online describes 7 of these sites and tells how they work.

Wow, I had no idea such sites existed. I’ve been saying for years that I need a non-dating site. Thanks for posting this.

    Hi Kristin,

Companion Tree is for both men and women!

Do you have any sites for men looking for men-friends?

I think these sites are a great idea. I know my readers are often telling me how hard it is to make friends once you are no longer of an age where you have ‘automatic’ friendship groups from school, university, or a social workplace. Moving to a new place, without these groups to fall back on, can often leave people feeling lonely and isolated.

Going online to make friends will seem a little forced and unnatural to some, but to me it seems like a simple extensions of things many people are already doing online.
