Happy Friendship Day, 2011

Published: August 7, 2011 | Last Updated: August 2, 2014 By | 6 Replies Continue Reading

When you saw this headline, I bet your reaction was something akin to, “National Friendship Day? Who knew? But I kid you not: Friendship Day falls midway between Poultry Day (which is in May) and Bologna Day (which is in October). Today, August 7th is Friendship Day.

If you want to scoff at the silly idea of a day celebrating friendship, you can ignore it and treat the day like any another Sunday. No one will know. But the loss will be yours.

On the other hand, if you set aside as few as 10 or 15 minutes today to think about your friendships, you’ll probably see a worthwhile return on your investment.

It is a privilege for me to be able to respond to your questions and dilemmas about friendship on this blog. Sometimes, relationships are confusing — to me too! Like any advice columnist who hears a snippet of your problem, I may not always hit the mark but I hope that my posts give you something worthwhile to think over.

Happy Friendship Day,
Irene

I find the timing of this post by “James” suspicious; this was made just a couple of hours before another member here left a few very negative posts about me to Irene, the site’s owner.

It’s very easy for anyone to log in as “Anonymous” and claim to be someone else.

Having said that, the original “Best Quotes” poster’s screen name (a couple of posts above) is very similar to other spam that was posted here just a few days before, also in awkward-sounding English, and the link (in the screen name) is similar:

There was a link to a site – a site very similar to another “quotes” site someone else left a few days before this, and which I believe Irene deemed a spam message and removed that post and even tried to block his/their IP.

Some people get paid to direct traffic to sites, by having visitors click on links to the sites.

    Anonymous/James said,

“But I am really hurt after reading your comment.”

It’s not my intent to hurt people’s feelings, but let’s just say my feelings have been hurt a lot over my life time by different people, and I’ve recovered. You will too.

At least you talked to me directly about this, kudos to you for that, if you really are James.

I didn’t get you why you thought in such way regarding my posting as I have contributed to this post with real means and I felt so to write my experience. But I am really hurt after reading your comment.

I wish you could take your words back as I don’t want you to say sorry. I respect the admin and the contributors here.

Not happy with your comment but still God bless you.

    James

Well on every friendship day me and my friends spend whole day together. We go for morning walk in the near park take breakfast. Get together in any one’s home this wan my term and they spend whole day in my home. And evening a planned movie and dinner and then club. The best day every year.

    You’re welcome.
In a way, it’s kind of a shame he’s banned, because I found the broken English and awkward prose rather amusing to read. (A little annoying, but also kind of entertaining. But then, my sense of humor can be wacky at times.)

  5. Irene says:

    Yes, he is a spammer.

I have erased at least 30 of his comments manually and blocked the IP address from which those were sent. Yes, he’s back again and I’m dealing with it 🙁

    Thanks for alerting me!

    Best,
    Irene

This “Best Quotes” guy was on here the other day making dozens of these semi-incoherent spam posts. (His screen name is a link to a site about quotes.)

My apologies if he’s a legitimate poster, but most of his posts look like they’re nothing more than hastily written attempts to drive traffic to his quotes blog.
