A reader asks about websites for finding friends in Pakistan and other countries.

QUESTION

Hi,

I am from Pakistan. Can you recommend me the name of websites where men and women become friends regardless of religion and country?

Signed, Lonely

ANSWER

Hi Lonely,

Thanks for writing from Pakistan. Although the largest proportion of visitors to this blog are from the U.S. and Canada, there are many others from distant corners of the world. I imagine that translation programs, such as the one provided by Google, make it possible for people who aren’t necessarily English-speaking, too, to read The Friendship Blog.

Specific to your question, I am not familiar with any Pakistani sites for meeting people. However, Meetup.com is global and allows you to search for groups by your country and city. For example, I checked and there were a number of groups in Islamabad. If there are no existing groups close to a city where you live, you can start one of your own.

What I like about Meetup groups is that they usually organized by and attract people with shared interests. Moreover, the participants are generally eager to meet other people.

Just in case anyone else is interested, I have attached a list of the top ten countries from which readers of this blog sign on. Pakistan happens to be #18 on the list.

Hope this is helpful.

    Hi there,
I live abroad and like Irene suggested have used Meetup (started my own group when I didn’t find one that fit what I enjoyed doing as an activity) and also use InterNations (http://www.internations.org). From some of these events, I have found out about other local groups that aren’t posted on the internet. I wish you well.
    Kind regards,
    Tara
