A Thanksgiving Day 2016 wish from me to you…

A Thanksgiving Day wish from me to you…

Each of us has something for which to be grateful (I happen to think I’m one of the most fortunate people in the world). But Thanksgiving Day is never all it’s cracked up to be. Sometimes the turkey burns or the pie falls flat.

The holiday brings with it idealized notions of large, amicable extended families feasting on plenty at long tables. And it’s easy for depictions like that to make us feel that we fall short of the dream, to varying extents.

Some people are alone. Some are eating with people they really would rather not be with. Some are sitting across the table from someone who voted for the other candidate and is still gloating about it. Others have little to eat or are stuck in hospitals, prisons or other institutions—without even having had the opportunity to vote. It’s hard to imagine what it might be like for people living in war-torn nations right now.

At my house, I’m missing some of the family members who once had a seat at my table but I’m even more thankful for those who are there. Life has its twists and turns. Thanksgiving comes and goes each year and no two are exactly the same. That’s because life has its up and downs—so do friendships. It’s often a balancing act trying to ride the waves.

Depending on where you live and whether or not you celebrate, I hope you find a way to enjoy the day and the people who around you. If you are alone on Thanksgiving, take care of yourself, pamper for yourself, and be grateful for your blessings.

I’m so thankful you have shared your friendship stories and quandaries me and other readers, and have made us all better people because of it.

My warmest wishes for a day filled with blessings, Irene

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and thanks, Irene, for your thoughtful message. I also like the header picture of the beach and the starfish.

Wishing all Americans a very Happy Thanksgiving. The way you celebrate Thanksgiving is how we in Europe celebrate Christmas – AND we have several days off during this time! 🙂
