I have a longtime friend who I have never been compatible with. She views us as being great friends, even though we were never close. I tried to let it fade but she wouldn’t catch on. I don’t want to go into tons of details as to why we’re incompatible, but: how do I break-up with a friend who was never really a friend, but thinks we’ve always been super close?

There are only two choices. One is to email them or talk to them and tell them nicely you dont wish to continue the friendship as you dont feel you are really compatible but you wish them well. The other way is to just become really busy, you dont have any time to talk to them, or spend time with them….and slowly you have nothing to do with them and just drift apart completely.
