My namesake, Hurricane Irene

HurricaneIrene.jpg

Gosh, I've taken a lot of teasing this week! But Hurricane Irene has also triggered a slew of phone calls from friends, saying they're thinking of me!

For anyone living on the east coast of the US, the predictions of my namesake hurricane are dire. I suspect that many of us will be losing power and/or internet service over the weekend.

I've done everything I can to do to prepare for the storm. My greatest fear is the threat of one or more of the 70-100 foot trees behind my house being uprooted by the winds. Their roots are already weakened from all the rain.

In case you don't see posts for a couple of days, you'll know the reason why. I hope all of you are staying safe over the weekend.

BTW: I found out about an interesting playgroup for adult women called Mice at Play. Read my interview with its founder, Nadia Stieglitz on Life Goes Strong.

the trees

Irene, did your trees survive Irene???

I was very fortunate

No trees down--although my neighbor was lucky too, because the two large ones of hers that fell, fell away from her house! The hurricane did so much destruction. I feel for all those who lost so much.

A news break for us internet folks...

As Hurricane Irene prepares to batter the East Coast, federal disaster officials have warned that Internet outages could force people to interact with other people for the first time in years. Residents are bracing themselves for the horror of awkward silences and unwanted eye contact. FEMA has advised: “Be prepared. Write down possible topics to talk about in advance. Sports...the weather. Remember, a conversation is basically a series of Facebook updates strung together.”

Now on a more serious note... Best of luck to everyone in the path of Irene. Stay safe!

Love this!

So cute! Thanks for posting~

Hilarious!

Thanks for that! We've battened down the hatches over here and are hunkering down for some intense Scrabble matches!

Good luck!

Thoughts & prayers are with you, Irene and everyone in the hurricane's path. Please take care.
